God’s wonderful eternal words of love have tremendous penetrating power to change lives when simple believing faith is applied. Evidence of this wonder-working power is the establishment of the Chinese Gospel Tape Mission of the Cincinnati Chinese Church. The tape ministry operates on the divine principle that “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
In August of 1970, I invited Jesus Christ into my heart to forgive all my sins. I asked Him to be my personal Savior and the Lord of my life. I surrendered my stubborn will to let the “King of kings” rule and reign in my heart. I submitted my body, mind, soul and spirit to the Creator of the universe to become clay in His hands. I prayed to let Jesus Christ mold and make me into what the wants me to be. From that moment of time, God’s wonderful plan began to unfold in my life. Hallelujah!! I was born again of the spirit and began to seek and hunger for spiritual truths.
I next opened my heart to the infilling of the mighty resurrection power of the Holy Spirit. By simple faith I asked the Holy Spirit to continually empower and control my life moment by moment so I could adequately lift up Jesus and glorify His holy name.
With baby faith, I began to obey God’s love commandment to “seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” At first it was difficult. I was indoctrinated and ingrained with the wordily pattern of self-reliance without God’s help. With trembling heart, I offered myself as a living sacrifice, as I sought the perfect will of God for my life.
Our marvelous God in the immensity of His wonderful love and wisest of all wisdom, and in everlasting undiminishable power surprised and astounded me by calling me to serve Him in a free loan Gospel Tape Ministry to the Chinese throughout the whole world.
Step by step, with His gentle hand of guidance, the Lord Jesus Christ led me. He was a lamp unto my feet in the straight narrow path of doing His perfect will. He took the tiny mustard seed of faith that I planted in the tape ministry and nurtured it.
I died to stubborn self will and the Lord began a new creation in me by crucifying the old rebellious sin nature and refining me so that I could serve Him as a new person.
Here are the evidences of His marvelous, mysterious, mind-boggling, wonder-working love power to change lives!
1. It baffles the logical thinking mind that God would call me to do Chinese tapes. I am an American-born Chinese who doesn’t understand or speak Chinese BUT… God in His matchless wonderful power gave me a new heart of love that enabled me to do it.
2. Inwardly, I was nervous and high-strung, unsuitable to record tapes but… Jesus Christ, the Creator, permeated me with His sweet sweet, peace that passes all understanding. He enabled me to spend long, tedious hours in taping a language I do not understand.
3. The goodness of God is truly amazing. I was depressed and sad but… God filled my inner being with an inner joy that comes from the knowledge that I am doing His perfect will. I can serve Him as part of the body of Christ by sending Gospel tapes throughout the world to win souls.
4. I was short-tempered and very impatient but… smoothly and silently, the Lord Jesus severed all the roots of bitterness and replaced them with serene tranquility and patient self-control. Now I can serve Him long hours without fatiguing anxieties. I can mount up with wings of eagles, run and not be weary, walk and not faint. It is by His eternal power and everlasting strength.
5. Tapes are God’s perfect solution for me to serve Him at that late age of 50, too old to be an evangelist, ineffective as a preacher, handicapped by lack of basic conversational skills, beset by language barriers, disadvantaged by a soft voice and timid personality but… God took my limited talents which I returned to Him as I dedicated my life to Jesus in irrevocable surrender, to yield my life totally to trust in His tremendous power, love and wisdom. Through free loan tapes, an introvert can be obedient to the great commission of preaching the Good News to the entire world. How wise is the wisdom of God!
God’s wonderful, exciting plan for me began to unfold when we took a giant step of faith and purchased an expensive high speed cassette duplicator. We were led to go to Chicago and tape the 1974 NACOCE meeting of world-wide evangelical speakers. God honored our faith. Over 500 tapes were distributed. Can you catch the vision and significance of this? These tapes spread the spiritual truths of the gifted speakers so that local Christians in numerous places throughout the world can hear these vital messages at their leisure without the great expense of having to travel to Chicago. This is true spiritual multiplication. Tapes can be used in so many different ways. Souls can be won to Christ to build up the new believer, to call back the backslider, to edify the saints, to strengthen the believers in times of turmoil and stress. Tapes can be used in countries that ban missionaries but allow religious recordings, many isolated Christians living in a foreign land can listen and be fortified in God’s Word. People with language problems, people who are blind, those in hospitals, or shut-ins can benefit by tapes. The dull tedium of routine chores can be lessened by gospel messages. For those who are too timid to witness, tapes can be shared with lost souls. Retired missionaries, preachers, and evangelists can still serve God because taping takes a minimum of energy and can be done anywhere, anytime. Their godly messages can continue to live on and on.
We started in simple faith with cheap equipment. God’s unerring guidance over a period of six years has opened up doors for us supernaturally. We have sent out over 40,000 gospel messages. It is indeed exciting to serve God! Through the tape ministry, we have been to many parts of the world to encourage and exhort believers and churches to start their own tape libraries, visiting such places as England, Holland and France in 1977 and later, the exotic lands of Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. God’s word tells us that when we delight in doing God’s will, he gives us the desires of our heart. While serving God, we have met believers all over the world. Our faith is fortified when we see that God truly loves the whole world.
The many letters testifying of the spiritual blessings that come from listeners gives us continual motivation to serve the Lord Jesus by this simple, effective way of communicating God’s wonderful love and forgiveness.
I have listened to over 3,000 tapes, saturating my mind with God’s Word which is true wisdom and knowledge. I am supremely impressed by the super-intelligence of God’s infinite mind and His fantastic love promises to those who obey. I truly know the reality of Romans 10:17 “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” It is my fervent desire and prayer that Christians will purpose in their hearts to draw close to God by feeding on God’s inexhaustible words of love every day.
